Ways to Generate Income Outside of Your Full Time Job

Having a side income that supplements your main full-time job is useful for many reasons. Depending on your circumstances, you could use that extra money to buy your first property, to invest in another property (as a side income), to go towards your yearly holidays, buying presents for Christmas (we said it), or to create a back-up fund which you can use should you need to in an emergency, such as your dishwasher breaks and you need to replace it or you have a car crash and need to pay for repairs – you never know what unexpected costs could crop up!

In today’s world, there are so many ways you can generate income outside your full-time job, however small or large that sum may be. The obvious option is to find a second job that you can do in your spare time, but there are other ways, such as going freelance, investing in crypto (you should look into the multichain block explorer) or running your own blog. If you live in a popular area, you could rent out your driveway. Alternatively, if you’re happy to earn a small amount of money each month, completing surveys can provide some extra pocket money.

To help inspire you, we have put together a guide on eight ways you can generate income outside your full-time job in 2025. Our hope is that one of our suggestions you can take up and enjoy the extra money it brings in.

Start up a blog

Blogs have grown a lot in popularity over the years, with more and more people starting one monthly (a lot of this is to do with new technology making the barrier to entry easier). They are great for many reasons, not only does it give you a platform to share your opinion, but it also gives you the opportunity to earn some money on the side – some people have managed to turn their blog into a full-time job!

A blog can be based on anything you are passionate about. It could be about fitness, photography, finance, business, marketing,  fashion, or sports. By writing about something you are passionate about, you will be more likely to keep it updated, which in turn will help you bring in more views. From an income point of view, you can earn money through sponsored posts, affiliate links, sponsored competitions, display ads and brand partnerships (brand partnerships tend to pay the most). The amount you can charge is very much down to your viewing numbers.

Invest in crypto

Crypto has taken the world by storm, with more coins being released each year and more companies getting involved in it – there was talk you could buy a Tesla with Dogecoin at one point. If you have the time to learn more about crypto, it can be a good investment opportunity which will allow you to make some money alongside your full-time job. Crypto is seen more as a long-term strategy, which means you’ll hopefully make your profit many years in the future. Just make sure you do your research and learn about crypto before investing heavily, as there is a way you can lose a lot of money if done wrong.

Take on freelance work

Could you offer your services as a freelancer? Freelancing allows you to earn a side income doing something you love, such as graphic design, photography, accounting or web design (to name a few). When you are a freelancer, you can charge more than your full-time day rate, and you get to keep everything you bring in. A lot of people start off as freelancers and then, over time, turn it into a full-time business that they run, instead of working for someone else. You can start by taking on some evening work, then once you get the hang of it, you could work a few hours on the weekend. The more hours you can work, the greater income you will generate outside of your full-time job.

Complete online surveys

Completing online surveys isn’t going to earn you a lot of money, in fact, very little, but it’s a nice little top-up which you can put towards your meals out each month or presents for Christmas, etc. Online, there are plenty of survey sites which will pay you to complete their surveys, which are done by big brands, such as Nike, Sainsbury’s, Primark, etc. Each survey will take five, ten, maybe an hour (they pay more the longer), and then once complete, they will pay you a small amount to say thank you. Before being approved to do a survey, they will make you fill out a questionnaire to ensure you are the right type of customer for them.

Invest in property

We mentioned above that you may be trying to earn some extra money to buy your first property. But, on the opposite side, if you already have a property, you could invest in another, as a way to generate extra income. Property can be a good money maker, as you’ll make money from the monthly rent you will charge and you will make a huge profit in the future when it comes to selling the property. To buy a second property, you will require a greater deposit, which is often around 20%. If you are interested in getting a second property to rent out, the best thing to do is to reach out to your local estate agent and ask them to go over the steps to do so.

Rent out your driveway

Did you know you can rent your driveway out and make some money from it each month? If you live in a popular city such as London and have a driveway you don’t use, you could rent it out to the public and make a small income on the side. There are various companies online that will allow you to advertise your driveway for the public to use. You can choose what days your driveway can be hired on and the price you are going to charge. This isn’t going to make you rich overnight, but it’s a nice income for very little work.

Sell products online

E-commerce allows you to make money even when you are sleeping – this is the dream, right? If you are creative, you could find a product that you can sell online on sites like Etsy or Facebook Marketplace. A product which you can sell doesn’t have to be complicated, it could be artwork which you have made, dresses which you have sewn or graphics you have put together. If there is a demand and you are good at marketing yourself, there is money to be made.

Find bargains and sell them online

Did you know there is a market for people who find bargains and then sell them online at a profit? If you have the time, it’s a lot of fun to visit your local shops and find products in their discount section, which you can make a profit on when reselling online. Finding the right discounts can be hard, but when done right, there is a lot of money to be made. At first, it’s discovering the shops which do a lot of discounts, as a lot of them don’t.

Pet sitting or dog walking

If you like pets, then pet sitting or dog walking could be for you. It’s something you can do on the weekends or in the evenings, and it pays fairly well, helping you save more money. There are various apps online which you can sign up for, such as Rover or Pawshake, which will help you connect with pet owners who are local to you. Walking dogs is a great way to stay active and fit, alongside making money. Depending on how long you walk for and the distance, you could burn up to 200 to 300 calories on a single walk, perfect if you are trying to lose weight.

The best thing to do is to create as many income streams as you can; this way, you don’t solely rely on one. For example, you could take on some freelance work, as well as start up an online store and do the occasional survey. Give a few of our suggestions a go and see which ones work best for you. Everyone is different, so what works best for someone may not be the best thing for you. As mentioned above, the more income you get from your side project, the more likely it is that you could turn it into a full-time job – if you enjoy it enough.

We hope we have given you some useful pointers on making some extra money. What will you be doing in the coming months to generate income outside your full-time job?
